Underground Airlines: Improbability

As I wrote about in the last post, “Underground airlines” was a brutal story with a horribly beautiful plot. The way that the author incorporated not just the idea and issue of slavery but also the issue of genetic cloning was incredible. But while the story itself was quite engaging and interesting i cannot help but look at some aspects of this story and see major flaws that irk me. One of the major ones being the final interaction with the double agent. I understand that there needed to be a big climax ending to the book itself, but throwing in a random addition and calling him a double agent is just sloppy. After reading a little of Espionage Facts | International Spy Museum, You can see that to be a double agent you need to be skilled a gathering information itself, the fact it took so long for Cook to catch up on Victor’s plan and even attempt to stop him is almost laughable. Especially since usually double agents are at least partially trained in the arts of combat and stealth, and seeing how Victor works and moves through the story any reader can see he at least has been somewhat trained. So seeing Cook only just barely make it in time to attempt to stop him just seemed like some last minute attempt to add one more good fight into the mix.
