The Man in the High Castle, Plausibility

To start this off, I think changing the way I observed this from the previous blog posts has been interesting. I think it gave me a chance to see a more visceral version and experience this in a way that would be impossible with simply reading through the story. But either way, I was impressed at the depiction of how the separate governments, the Japanese and Germans, went about how they interacted with captives. The Germans were horrifyingly clever, using many different fear tactics mixed with physical torture to get the answers they sought. One example described in ,Secrets of the Nazi Interrogators (historynet.com), was how the Nazis were able to force an illusion of near omnipotence on their captives. They used many slight tricks after gathering small bits of information and managed to make cold reads so accurate it could instill fear in the toughest man. And the impressive depictions do not stop there, this story showed how ruthless and downright heartless the Japanese were with their captives. They used some of the most inhumane torture techniques, varying from gas exposure, to even laying captives over growing bamboo shoots that would grow through them. Unbelievably Inhumane Japanese Torture Methods in WWII (ranker.com) shares some of the most terrifying and stomach wrenching details, like how they would torture and maim families. This show stayed true to that, it showed how they knew that family could be used as a weakness. These methods that inflict pain and suffering are unthinkable in this day and age, it horrendous that at one point these methods were acceptable. Although that is what makes this story incredible, it shows that had the ones who used these techniques not been stopped, it could have ended up being a normal practice now.
